Speakers named for United Fresh Start event
Educational workshop topics and guest speakers have been named for the Jan. 16-18 United Fresh Start Foundation Annual Conference.
Set at the Rancho Bernardo Inn in San Diego, the event offers a new half-day program focused on growing access to fresh fruits and vegetables, according to a news release.
Speakers and workshop topics for the Jan. 17 session include:
- “Increasing Children’s Access to Fresh Produce Through Community Partnership.” Speaker: Alexander Justice Moore, chief development officer, D.C. Central Kitchen.
- “From Schools to Supermarkets: Turning Access into Sales at Retail.” Speakers: Punam Ohri-Vachaspati, professor at Arizona State University, and Mike Orf, assistant vice president produce operations for Hy-Vee.
- “Making the Healthy Choice the Easy Choice for Kids, in Restaurants and Schools.” Speakers: Ype Von Hengst, co-founder and executive chef at Silver Diner, and Gary Petill, director of Food and Nutrition Services for San Diego Unified School District.
Registration for the event is open to all United Fresh members for $200, according to the United Fresh website, with a non-member rate of $400. Participation in the United Fresh Start Foundation Golf Tournament is set at $300 per player.
