The USDA is taking comments until Sept. 16 on a document that looks at the risks associated with the importation of leaves and stems of fresh sage from Ethiopia into the continental U.S.

“Based on the analysis, we have determined that the application of one or more designated phytosanitary measures will be sufficient to mitigate the risks of introducing or disseminating plant pests or noxious weeds via the importation of leaves and stems of fresh sage from Ethiopia,” the USDA said in a Federal Register notice.

After reviewing any comments received, the USDA said the agency will announce its decision regarding the import status of leaves and stems of fresh sage from Ethiopia, the notice said.
