USDA sanctions Florida businesses for PACA violations

The U.S. Department has imposed sanctions on two Florida companies for not paying customers for fresh produce under the Perishable Agricultural Commodity Act.

The U.S. Department has imposed sanctions on two Florida companies for not paying customers for fresh produce under the Perishable Agricultural Commodity Act.

The companies and their principals, according to a news release, are:

  • Maya Fruit Corp. Inc., Miami Lakes, Fla., for not paying $9,735 to a Texas seller. As of the issuance date of the reparation order, Richard Vega was listed as the officer, director and/or major stockholder of the business.
  • G & K Citrus LLC, Miami, for failing to pay $57,779 to an Illinois seller. As of the issuance date of the reparation order, Karen Thompson and Gary Thompson were listed as a members or managers of the business.

The businesses have lost their PACA licenses and the principal operators are barred from engaging in PACA-licensed business, according to the release.
