Talley Farms hires sales manager

Derek Sass has joined Talley Farms, Arroyo Grande, Calif., as sales manager.

Sass has 20 years of experience in the industry. He was a national account executive at Beachside Produce, leading the strawberry program, according to a news release. Before that, he was procurement manager at Markon Inc., overseeing quality control and managing multiple commodities.

At Talley Farms, will focus on developing new accounts, and expanding the company’s commodity offerings. The fourth-generation family operation — celebrating its 70th year in 2018 — grows organic and conventional fruits and vegetables, including bell peppers, spinach, heirloom tomatoes, Brussels sprouts, avocados and lemons.

“He is a consummate professional who has spent his entire career working and building relationships within the produce industry,” Todd Talley, co-owner and chief financial officer, said of Sass in a news release. “His successful track record in sales and commodities management will serve him well as part of our team.”

Talley said the company has expanded in recent years, to provide year-round supplies, and Sass will play a role in expanding the customer base.
