Citrus fruits enjoy a loyal organic following. Organic oranges and organic limes saw an increase in the average retail price per pound from 2017-2018—15 cents and 13 cents, respectively—which was enough to drive organic sales of these citrus fruits up from 2017 to 2018, according to data from IRI/FreshLook Marketing.
Families with kids really favor organic oranges. In fact, consumers with kids living at home were nearly twice as likely to buy the fruit than those without kids at home, according to Organic Fresh Trends 2020. Consumers with two kids in the home were among the most likely groups overall to buy organic oranges periodically.
Asian shoppers and African American consumers comprised the groups most likely overall to always buy organic oranges. However, Caucasian shoppers were among the least likely to make an organic-only orange purchase, followed by those age 50 and older and those living in the Midwest.
