Central California organic truck shipments show mixed trends in 2021

A comparison of central California truck shipments of organic fresh produce in 2021 compared with 2020 showed a big gain in oranges and romaine lettuce, but lower shipments for multiple vegetables.

A comparison of central California truck shipments of organic fresh produce in 2021 compared with 2020 showed a big gain in oranges and romaine lettuce, but lower shipments for multiple vegetables.

2021 central California truck shipments of fruits and vegetables, in 20-pound equivalent cartons, compared with 2020, were:

  • Artichokes: 1.1 million cartons, down 15%;
  • Beets: 1.65 million cartons, down 13%;
  • Blackberries: 6.745 million cartons, up 17%;
  • Blueberries: 6.68 million cartons, down 10%;
  • Broccoli: 15.79 million cartons, down 23%;
  • Cabbage: 4.325 million cartons, up 6%;
  • Cantaloupes: 5.38 million cartons, up 4%;
  • Carrots: 36.79 million cartons, down 68%;
  • Cauliflower: 16.97 million cartons, down 13%;
  • Celery: 35.73 million cartons, down 5%;
  • Cherries: 695,000 cartons, up 12%;
  • Honeydew: 2.145 million cartons, up 24%;
  • Kale: 5.58 million cartons, unchanged;
  • Green leaf lettuce: 1.575 million cartons, up 7%;
  • Iceberg lettuce: 9.21 million cartons, down 3%;
  • Oranges: 52.9 million cartons, up 27%;
  • Bell peppers: 550,000 cartons, down 41%;
  • Red leaf lettuce: 1.44 million cartons, unchanged;
  • Romaine lettuce: 48.32 million cartons, up 6%;
  • Raspberries: 4.795 million cartons, down 11%;
  • Spinach: 1.395 million cartons, up 3%;
  • Strawberries: 88.11 million cartons, up 8%
