Bakersfield, Calif.-based Grimmway Farms has voluntarily recalled certain organic and conventional carrot products because they may have been contaminated with salmonella.

“The recall was initiated as a result of a routine, internal company test,” president and CEO Jeff Huckaby said in a notice on the U.S. Food and Drug Administration website. “The health of our customers and the integrity of our products are our highest priorities, and we will continue to monitor and communicate as additional information is available.”

No illnesses have been linked to the recall.

Retail items affected include Organic Cut and Peeled Baby Carrots, Organic Premium Petite Carrots, Organic Petite Carrots, Shredded Carrots, Organic Peeled Baby-Cut Carrots and Organic Baby Rainbow Carrots, according to the notice. The products were sold under a variety of brands, including Bunny Luv, Cal-Organic, Grimmway Farms and O Organics, the private label for Albertsons.

Grimmway also recalled certain shredded carrots and chopped carrots sold to food manufacturers and foodservice distributors.

All affected customers have been notified of the recall, and much of the product was recaptured before being made available for consumption, according to the notice.
