Original ‘Andy Boy’ Andy D’Arrigo Dies at 102

D’Arrigo became the face of the brand at age 3 and served as a strong advocate for the fresh produce industry.

D’Arrigo Bros. Co.'s third-generation produce leader, Andy D’Arrigo, has died at the age of 102, the company says in a LinkedIn post.

Born in 1924, D’Arrigo witnessed the growth and evolution of the family business. The company, celebrating his 100th birthday, shared how his father and uncle emigrated from Italy in 1907 and formed a company that became a symbol of hard work, dedication and a focus on quality.

He became the charismatic face of the Andy Boy brand at age 3. The company says his image gracing its label is a testament to the values he instilled in the business and the connection he maintained with customers over the years.

D’Arrigo Bros. Co. says the Andy Boy brand became “a symbol of the quality, freshness and family values that have been at the heart of everything we do.

“To us, he was part of the family legacy that helped build a brand that generations have come to know and trust,” the company adds.

Western Growers notes that D’Arrigo eventually took over the company at 27 years old after the unexpected death of his father, Stefano D’Arrigo, and became a strong advocate for the fresh produce industry. Andy D’Arrigo served as chairman of the Western Growers board of directors in 1978 and was a director from 1951-1962 and 1967-1984. Western Growers recognized D’Arrigo with its Award of Honor in 1983.

D’Arrigo Bros. Co. says, “As we remember Andy’s incredible life, we celebrate the lasting impact he made on our company, our industry and the countless families who have welcomed Andy Boy produce into their homes.”
