Proseal, which specializes in tray sealing equipment, has a new testing system that allows fresh-cut processors to determine the optimal seal and peel strength for packaging.

The ProTest automated lid-peeling machine measures resistance of films when being separated from trays to ensure the maximum consumer convenience, according to a news release.

“Existing test equipment is capable of assessing the burst strength of a seal and how much pressure or weight it may support, but up until now there has been no test that actually measures the ‘peelability’ of a tray,” Jessie Malone, test facility manager, said in the release. “Finally the industry now has something that it can lean on to take the ‘person to person’ judgment away from this vital aspect of heat sealing.”

The United Kingdom-based Proseal recently celebrated the 10-year anniversary of Proseal America, Richmond, Va.

Since opening in 2009, Proseal America has doubled in size, with plans for continued growth, according to a news release. The company provides tray sealing solutions for the fresh convenience food market, including fresh-cut produce.

Proseal America plans to move to a new factory in Chesterfield, Va., by 2020, quadrupling the size of the operation, according to the news release.

“It was with immense pride that I could see the company’s achievements and the highly acclaimed people that we’ve attracted and retained over the past decade,” CEO Geri Wyatt said in the release about the anniversary celebration. “It also gave me a much-needed fuel injection to see what’s possible for Proseal to achieve in the next decade – let’s bring it on!”
