Sicar Farms has opened its new Mission, Texas, facility, with cooler capacity of 85,000 square feet, 21 loading docks, and office space.

The warehouse features new tack technology, with most functions controlled by robots and sorting line systems, according to a news release. Warehouse efficiencies will optimize inventory operations, cutting forklift traffic in half and increasing product flow at the same time. Plans call for solar panels by the end of the year.

The company has greatly expanded since opening offices in McAllen in 2003, according to CEO Luis Gudino. The company now manages 20 commodities, and as both product and number of customers have grown, the expansion was critical.

“This new facility will accommodate three times as much of expected operational capacity,” Gudino said in the release. “Additionally, industry market’s needs are constantly evolving and so are we. Our company principles and focus are innovative, modern and sustainable.”

Sicar Farms recently received a 2019 Best of Mission Award in the produce wholesaler category. The annual Mission Award Program recognizes businesses in the Mission, Texas, area.

The company will be exhibiting at the Produce Marketing Association’s Fresh Summit expo Oct. 18-19 in Anaheim, Calif., at booth No.866.
