The National Mango Board has its first members representing frozen mangoes.

In March 2019, the national research and promotion program that established the board was amended to include members that represent the frozen industry. The change followed a vote among industry members.

Their terms start immediately, according to a news release.

The new members, the segment of the frozen mango industry they represent and the length of their terms, are:

  • Xiomara Elias Argote, San Luis Obispo, Calif., importer (through the end of 2022);
  • Jorge Sosa Perez Sandi, Michoacan, Mexico, processor (through the end of 2022); and
  • Jean-Christophe Hesteau, Michoacan, importer (through the end of 2021).

“On behalf of the entire National Mango Board, congratulations and welcome to the newly appointed board members from the frozen industry,” Manuel Michel, the board’s executive director, said in the release. “We look forward to working closely with all the members as we continue to drive mango consumption and develop new strategies for increasing the demand for both fresh and frozen mango.”

As with all marketing and promotion orders, the U.S. Department of Agriculture gives the final approval for nominees chosen by the industries they represent.
