Donna-based Grow Farms Texas has hired Maxine Olivarez as a buyer this year.

Olivarez is bilingual and communicates well with growers, in addition to bringing previous industry experience in south Texas and Mexico, said Tommy Wilkins, director of sales.

Wilkins said the hurricane in July severely damaged the firm’s distribution center.

“We are currently negotiating on a new distribution point for next year,” Wilkins said.

“The Santos family allowed us to move into their TransKool facility and truly saved the back half of this year’s season. The transition was so positive most of our business were barely impacted.”

Wilkins said the company has been diligent in taking preventive measures to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus, with temperature testing, face masks and handwashing stations all in place.

“We are heavily focused on retail but always looking for partners in the foodservice sector,” he said.
