What is the single most urgent shift the produce industry must make today to ensure it remains sustainable and profitable in 2030 and beyond?

“The biggest thing for me and for the industry is to make sure we’re maximizing freight. The cost of fuel and the cost of operating are going to be extraordinarily challenging going forward, so it’s important to make sure that we’re maximizing freight and make sure the cost per case is going to be manageable going forward.”

Erik Brown is vice president of produce business development at JOH and brings more than four decades of experience in the retail food industry, including 35 years dedicated to produce.

He began his career in the stores, quickly working his way up to produce manager before taking on increasingly senior leadership roles in merchandising, operations and procurement.

Throughout his career, Brown has led teams across the U.S. and internationally, with experience spanning store design, strategic business planning, merchandising, distribution, brand development and go-to-market strategy.
