Valent USA has new VP of sales

John Smith, whose career includes a 32-year tenure at Bayer Crop Science, will lead Valent USA’s sales team and direct the sales process for its products and services across North America.

Valent USA LLC has named John Smith as vice president of sales, effective July 22.

Based in San Ramon, Calif., Valent USA develops and markets products in the U.S., Canada and Mexico that advance sustainable agriculture, protect crops, enhance crop yields, improve food quality, beautify the environment and safeguard public health, according to a news release.

Smith joins Valent USA from Winfield United, the agriculture inputs subsidiary of Land O’Lakes, where he served as director of strategic supplier alliances and procurement. He joined Winfield United in 2020 after a 32-year career at Bayer Crop Science, where he held various domestic and international positions in sales, marketing and commercial leadership roles.

Smith will lead the sales team and direct the sales process for its products and services across North America, the release said. He will also serve as the company’s executive lead to the customer channel and support global initiatives of Valent’s parent company, Sumitomo Chemical.

Smith has a bachelor’s degree in agronomy and agriculture business from the University of Missouri. He also earned California Pest Control Adviser certification and has been involved on several industry boards, including the National FFA Sponsors Board, the Western Plant Health Association and the United Fresh Produce Association.
