USDA appoints National Mango Board members

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has appointed six members to the National Mango Board.

New members who will serve 3-year terms:

  • Clark Golden, Vineland, N.J., importer;
  • Evelyn Sapp, Lehigh Acres, Fla., domestic producer; and
  • Rodrigo Diaz, Culiacan, Mexico, foreign producer.

Members re-appointed to 3-year terms are:

  • Michael Warren, Pompano Beach, Fla., importer;
  • Patrick Dueire, Gloucester City, Del., first handler; and
  • Jacquie Abuhayer Hanze, Guayaquil, Ecuador, foreign producer.

Members whose terms have ended are:

  • Susan Underwood, Saint Petersburg, Fla.;
  • Tomás Paulin Quezada, Colima, Mexico; and
  • Veny Marti, Carolina, Puerto Rico.

“Each year we look forward to this announcement, and on behalf of the entire NMB it is my pleasure to welcome the board members who will be appointed in 2019,” Manuel Michel, executive director of the mango board, said in a news release. “This new group will join a well-established board that has been very successful at guiding research and promotion programs that are increasing mango demand.”

There are 18 members on National Mango Board: eight importers, two domestic producers, one first handler and seven foreign producers. Board members are nominated by their industry and appointed by the secretary of agriculture. Members can serve up to two consecutive terms.
