El Grupo Crespo, which markets mangoes under the Crespo Organic and RCF brands in the U.S., has opened its packinghouse in El Rosario, Sinaloa, Mexico for the season.
The facility, known as Empaque Don Jorge I (EDJI), was built in the early 1970s and renovated through a three-year plan that began in 2016, according to a news release.
A Crespo Organic marketing plan to highlight the facility through an orchard to table map of a mango’s journey at the company was scrapped because of the pandemic.
The 100,000 square feet of packinghouse floor space was reconfigured for better efficiencies, according to the release, allowing the company to add another packing line. The facility now has seven lines and packs 14 labels for different growers. There is one dedicated line for packing the Crespo
Organic brand. The facility also has 11 hydro-thermal tank to treat the fruit for export.
Even with COVID-19 distancing and safety protocols, the facility will pack more product than pre-renovation, according to the release.
As the season hits its peak, the facility will receive 14 trucks a day.
