With Hurricane Dorian scheduled to hit Florida immediately before the annual Florida Tomato Conference, organizers have postponed the event.

Originally scheduled for Sept. 3-5 in Naples, the conference will be rescheduled, according to Michael Schadler, executive vice president of the Florida Tomato Exchange, which hosts the annual conference with the Florida Tomato Committee.

“We’ve just made the decision to cancel the conference,” Schadler said in an e-mail the afternoon of Aug. 30. “We will likely reschedule it for early October, but won’t make a final decision for at least another week. (We) need to make it through this storm first.”

Guest rooms will be honored until cancelled by attendees and reimbursement options will be sent to them, according to an e-mail to the conference’s registered attendees from the conference manager for the exchange, Diana Hester.

“We will be in touch with everyone as soon as possible with additional details. For those companies that sponsored the conference, we will contact you soon with options for being reimbursed,” according to the e-mail. Anyone who paid registration fees will also be reimbursed.”
