Index Fresh, Riverside, Calif., is hosting its 20th Avocado Grower Seminar series to address integrated pest management (IPM) and biological control agents.

The company’s annual seminars help educate growers on grove management topics and other issues, including export market trends, labor, avocado nutrition and soil science, according to a news release.

Guest speakers for the three September seminars are:

  • Tom Roberts, entomologist at Integrated Consulting Entomology;
  • Anna Howell entomologist at the University of California Cooperative Extension in Ventura County; and
  • Jim Davis, entomologist for San Diego and Riverside counties for Entomological Services Inc.

“California avocados benefit from a long history of IPM,” Roberts wrote in an Index Fresh newsletter. “Proper disease management helps influence IPM in avocados. Healthy trees are able to withstand the effects of pests better and reduce the need for pesticide applications.”

The seminars will be in the California cities of Ventura on Sept. 11, San Luis Obispo on Sept. 12 and Fallbrook on Sept. 13. To register, contact Susan Soto at Ssoto@IndexFresh.com or (909) 877-0999, ext. 258.

The company started the Index Fresh Seminar series in 2011, and past seminars can be seen at www.indexfresh.com/seminar-series.
