The government of Kenya has asked USDA’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service to authorize the importation of fresh oregano for consumption into the U.S.

USDA’s APHIS has drafted a pest risk assessment that describes potential pests associated with the commodity, according to a news release.

The USDA is making the draft pest risk assessments available for public comment before the agency finalizes its draft assessment that identifies pest control measures in the import approval process, according to the release.

The USDA said the draft pest risk assessment for oregano for consumption from Kenya will be available for review and comment until Oct. 13.
