With springtime crawfish boils just around the corner, Houston-based MountainKing Potatoes has introduced two new offerings that help retailers capitalize on the season.

The packs will help retailers build on the half-billion-dollar crawfish boil season that now spans far beyond its Louisiana roots, according to a news release.

Known for its Crawfish B-Red potatoes, MountainKing has added a 3-pound Crawfish Medley Pack and a 3-pound Crawfish Gold Pack, the release said.

All three crawfish packs are packaged in mesh bags that can be dropped straight into a pot without removing the product from the bag, according to the release. The boil-in-bag feature also keeps the petite-sized potatoes separated from other ingredients.

“Every year our crawfish season gets bigger and better,” Andres Trettin, MountainKing’s director of marketing, said in the release. “It’s a testament to just how popular crawfish boils have become outside of Louisiana.”

The smaller-sized potatoes in MountainKing’s crawfish packs appeal to the growing popularity of pre-sized, petite varieties, he said in the release. In addition, the waxy texture and high moisture content of the potatoes help maintain their shape after boiling, the release said.

Retail grocer POS support for the Red, Gold and Medley Crawfish Packs includes high-graphic half-size bins, custom display signage and optional display sleeves for additional secondary displays, according to the release. Retail partners also can take advantage of the program’s collaborative social media support.

Retailers have experienced elevated sales by cross-promoting MountainKing’s crawfish packs with fresh crawfish and other seafood, Trettin said in the release.

Crawfish season is also known to spur sales for lemons, onions, garlic and mushrooms, the release said.

“The season is really a produce manager’s dream,” Trettin said in the release. “It’s like a Super Bowl weekend, but every weekend for about four months.”

Fifty-pound foodservice sacks and graphic table tent cards are available for restaurants.
