Grower, marketer and distributor Oppy says it plans to double its Mexican grape volume for the 2024 season.
Grape varieties including Autumncrisp and Ruby Rush will be part of this additional volume for the season set to begin in mid-May as it transitions from the Chilean season, according to a news release.
“We are thrilled to be increasing our volume twofold, sourcing from four key regions,” Piers Hanbury, executive director of category development for Oppy, said in the release. “Starting in Obregon and progressing through Hermosillo, Aleman and Carborca, we are poised to offer an even wider array of top-quality grapes to our customers.”
Oppy said it estimates industry volumes will fall within the 22 million to 24 million box range.
The company said it also redesigned its supply chain to use its Los Angeles-based cold storage facility for 20% of its volume, which reduced its mileage.
Asian markets are a major focus for the company during Mexican grape season, with its 50% share in Delica North America, Oppy said.
“Our partnership with Oppy enables us to deliver the right fruit to each market, with Japan expected to be a key destination. Additionally, we are eyeing opportunities in South Korea and Australia,” Carlos Alcazar, Delica’s supplier relationship manager, said in the release.
The company said its partnership with Sun Grape USA will help it ensure a consistent supply of year-round grapes from Peru, Brazil, Chile, South Africa, Mexico and California.
