Current strawberry, blueberry volumes ideal for promotions

BLANCO, Calif. – Blueberries will be bountiful the next five weeks, and strawberry production continues to be strong, so Naturipe is encouraging larger pack sizes, cross-promotion and cross-merchandising.

Vinnie Lopes, vice president of sales for the West, said blueberry supplies in particular will be ample throughout July as production ramps up throughout the country.

“We’re really touting larger packs,” Lopes said June 27 during a tour of a strawberry field in the Blanco area. “We’re looking for retailers to upsize their pint programs to a 1-pound blueberry (pack), which is a little more blueberries for the consumer to enjoy each time they pick up a clamshell. We’re also selling a good amount of larger packs, of 18-ounce and 2-pound and occasionally bigger than that …

“Lots of good blueberries to buy and sell in the next five weeks ahead,” Lopes said.
