Wonderful Pistachios is supporting agricultural workers in Kings County, Calif., with an auction of gear worn by pro boxer Jose Ramirez, who is sponsored by Wonderful Pistachios.

Wonderful Pistachios will match the winning bid up to $25,000, according to a news release.

Ramirez, who grew up in Avenal, Calif., near Wonderful’s Lost Hills pistachio and almond facility, will fight Viktor Postol Aug. 29 in Las Vegas. He’ll be defending his junior welterweight titles, and the Wonderful Pistachios-branded gear worn to the ring and during the fight will be auctioned, with proceeds going to Kings County ag workers.

“We simply can’t do enough to support our agriculture workers right now,” Ramirez, a 2012 Olympian, said in the release. “They’re truly the definition of essential workers. Anything will help.”

John Alkire, CEO of The Big Fresno Fair, said that what Ramirez fights for outside the ring — “human rights for our local farm workers, is paramount to his character and our continued support of his efforts.”

Adam Cooper, senior vice president of marketing for The Wonderful Co., said the company has a long-time partnership with Ramirez.

“California’s Central Valley is the heart of our operations, where our pistachios are grown and harvested, and we’re excited about this additional opportunity to support the local community,” Cooper said about the fundraiser

Pre-bidding for the auction is open; e-mail rmirigian@gmail.com to place a bid. Final bidding will be on live on KMJ 580, the week after the fight.
