Giant offers kids free fruit

Kids got the hangries? Giant of Landover, Md., has a solution.

Starting Sept. 8, all 169 stores in the chain will offer free fruit for kids ages 10 and under.

"Giant is always pleased to provide opportunities for healthy eating, whether it's at home or in the store," said Lisa Coleman, lead nutritionist. "This program is one more way Giant helps children consume enough fruits and vegetables, further emphasizing our commitment to helping customers of all ages eat well and make healthy choices for themselves and their families."

Produce displays and in-store signage directs customers to the free fruit stand in each store.

Bananas kick off the program, followed by mandarin oranges later this fall.
