Opal apple ‘orchard’ opens in New York
Opal apples can be found growing in Broetje Orchards’ Washington acreage, but New Yorkers had the short-lived treat of seeing a local Opal “orchard” commemorating National Apple Day.
The Opal Orchard NYC pop-up from Oct. 19-21 was on Orchard Street in downtown Manhattan, according to a news release from Opal marketers FirstFruits Marketing. The promotion included tastings, crafts, contests and giveaways, according to a news release.
“We wanted to bring a fun, visual and fully immersive experience for visitors of all ages to enjoy without having to leave the city,” Chuck Zeutenhorst, FirstFruits general manager, said in the release.
Paul Esvelt, post-harvest manager at Broetje Orchards, appeared on “Fox & Friends” Oct. 20, the day before National Apple Day, to talk about fall recipes and promote the temporary Opal orchard.
Opal apples merchandising support includes consumer events, public relations, social media and digital content and a targeted digital advertising campaign, according to the release.
