Pacific Trellis’ Jam Grapes back in the market
Pacific Trellis Fruit, Los Angeles, is offering the proprietary Jam Grapes from October through July from Brazil.
The company showcased the black seedless table grape variety at the Produce Marketing Association’s Fresh Summit expo Oct. 18-19 in Anaheim, Calif.
Availability picks up again from late April into mid-July, said Dan Carapella Jr., Pacific Trellis senior salesman-East Coast.
Their size and appearance resemble Thomcords and they have a high brix count and a concord jam flavor, he said.
“The niche in the market that we see these fill is for the Thomcord/concord customer,” he said during the expo.
Concord grapes are in production in a window over the summer in California, and then productions stops, he said.
There is some production in Michigan, but that ends by late October, he said.
The new variety fills in during the winter months and in the spring/early summer before the California season gets started again.
