Put the hankies away, Sunions to return to stores
Quit yer cryin’ … Sunions are on their way.
The tearless sweet onion introduced in 2007 will be available again in November, with supplies expected into April. The onions, developed through natural hybridization by Nunhems Vegetable Seeds, are grown in Washington and Nevada, according to a news release.
Sunions have a comprehensive marketing plan that includes point-of-sale materials, produce manager education, social media content, consumer advertising and public relations campaign, according to the release.
Before they’re shipped, Sunions undergo a protocol that includes three separate tests for flavor and “tearlessness,” according to the release.
Sunions had more than 1.2 billion consumer media impressions in print, audio, web and television media in their inaugural season, according to the release, appearing on “The Chew” and “Good Morning America.”
