Stokes Purple sweet potatoes are back in season and Frieda’s Specialty Produce is preparing for the holiday season.

According to data from Nielsen, retailers stocking Frieda’s exclusive Stokes Purple sweet potatoes are seeing as much as 20% increases weekly dollar same-store sales on them vs. the previous season.

As the season progresses, Frieda’s suggests creating superfood displays that combine the Stokes Purple sweet potatoes, along with fresh turmeric, ginger and citrus, touting their benefits as functional foods.

“Stokes are in high demand this year as we anticipate that holiday cooking will have a functional spin,” Alex Berkley, Frieda’s director of sales, said in the release. “Stokes Purple sweet potatoes are ideal to promote for Thanksgiving and Christmas, and our display shipper is a great way to showcase them and add incremental shelf space.”

Frieda’s recommends signs encouraging dishes such as sweet potato pie using the colorful potatoes.

The potatoes, organic and conventional, are available through may in 15- and 40-pound cartons; every potato is labeled to reduce errors at checkout. An organic 3-pound bag, which comes 12 to a carton, is also available.
