Southeast drives avocado category growth in October

The U.S. Southeast region is at the head of the class for retail avocado sales growth.

The U.S. Southeast region is at the head of the class for retail avocado sales growth.

The Hass Avocado Board reported the U.S. Southeast delivered a sales increase of 16.7% for the four weeks ending Oct. 31, reaching $22.1 million for the period.

This growth contributed an additional $3.1 million to the category, which translates to 30.9% of total avocado category incremental growth for the period, according to a news release.

During 2021 year to date, the U.S. Southeast Region posted dollar gains of 1.7% for the category while units were flat (up 0.4%), according to the release. The region’s growth translated to $4.4 million and just over 1 million units during 2021.

Total U.S. avocado category dollar sales for the four weeks ending Oct. 31 posted a 6.3% increase to $172.7 million, generating an additional $10.3 million for the category for the period, according to the release.

The average price per unit in the four-week period was up 19%, to $1.19 per unit, versus the prior year.
