With food inflation woes weighing on the minds of many heading into spring, Walmart says it wants its customers to focus on celebrating rather than skimping this Easter.

“At Walmart, our purpose is to help customers save money and live better. We’re committed to keeping prices low, so families can spend less time worrying about the cost of coming together and more time celebrating with their loved ones,” John Laney, Walmart U.S. executive vice president for food, said on the company’s website. “To ensure our customers can do just that, we’re continuing to invest in the moments that matter this year by offering a Walmart-curated Easter meal and Easter basket at last year’s price.”

The Bentonville, Ark.-based Walmart says last year’s price is a comparison based on the average price charged for the featured items from Feb. 15 to April 15, 2022, versus Walmart’s national or highest regional price to be charged for the same items from Feb. 15 to April 15, 2023. Prices may vary by region.

What's on offer? Walmart is promoting an entire Easter meal and basket for less than $100 or as Laney says, "an Easter without compromise."

This marks the second year that Walmart is focused on putting its “everyday low prices” in more baskets. Last year, Walmart offered an entire shopping basket of holiday mealtime essentials at the same price as 2021.

“It was a first for us at Walmart, and both new and existing Walmart customers responded enthusiastically when saving money was a top priority,” Laney said.

The photo accompanying Laney’s article on the Walmart website is of a female shopper making selections from a wall of fresh produce. Whether preparing a brunch or dinner, shoppers will find affordable prices on green beans, ham, pie and many of the “fixings” in between, says the company.

“Even with some food costs stabilizing, they remain high overall, especially for Easter essentials like eggs,” Laney said. “That’s why we’ve worked hard to offset the higher cost of eggs by lowering the cost on other Easter essentials and offering an entire Easter meal at the same price as last year.”

As to the basket in the shopping basket, Walmart says it is also offering an assortment of candy, toys and more to create a traditional Easter basket at last year’s price.

The lower prices are available now, says Walmart, and customers can shop for both the meal and Easter basket online and in stores until April 15.
