Walmart’s potato and onion prices spike

It’s been said that potatoes and onions are the nuts and bolts of the produce department. Looking at prices at Walmart, these two core commodities have seen price spikes from mid-January to mid-April.

It’s been said that potatoes and onions are the nuts and bolts of the produce department. Looking at prices at Walmart, these two core commodities have seen price spikes from mid-January to mid-April.

Russet potatoes, per pound

Jan. 16 price: $0.74
April 17 price: $.095
Percent increase: 28%

Yellow onions, each

Jan. 16 price: $0.81
April 17 price: $0.95
Percent increase: 17%
