Orlando, Fla.-based Spice World has added a new item to its product portfolio — refrigerated fresh diced garlic — says Mike Smith, senior vice president of sales and marketing.
It’s available in a 5-ounce, resealable pouch and is “perfect for adding fresh and zesty flavor to a wide variety of dishes, including marinades, soups, dressings and much more,” he says.
Refrigerated fresh diced garlic joins Spice World’s existing line of garlic products that includes fresh garlic in sleeves and ready-to-use garlic in jars, pouches and squeezable packaging. All are available in conventional and organic versions.
Organic garlic continues to grow in popularity with both consumers and retailers, Smith says.
“Spice World offers a wide array of organic products in fresh, peeled and ready-to-use formats,” he says. “We are seeing Gen Z and millennials select organic produce as their first choice.”
Demand for fresh garlic remains high, Smith adds, with Americans purchasing 120 million pounds of Spice World garlic each year.
Garlic has universal appeal, and it’s a pantry staple ingredient that is enjoyed year-round, he adds.
“Summertime is an excellent time for outdoor cookouts including guacamole dips and gazpachos,” Smith says. “Both feature garlic in their recipes.”
Time savings and flavorful ingredients also are top of mind during back-to-school season, Thanksgiving, Christmas and other seasonal holidays, he says.
Spice World oversees 4,000 acres of garlic farms in California’s San Joaquin Valley, Smith says. The company also “follows the sun” to garlic-growing climates around the world.
Spice World was founded in 1949 by Andy “Pops” Caneza and expanded into prepared onions, ginger and seasoning blends 70 years later. The product line includes:
- Easy Onion, pre-chopped onion in jars and in squeezable packaging.
- Ready-to-use, minced ginger in jars and in squeezable packaging, refrigerated peeled ginger in 7-ounce resealable pouches.
- Mesh bags of organic and conventional fresh shallots.
In addition, the firm just relaunched and unified its three seasoning blend condiments and Italian pesto under a single seasoning blends product line with a refreshed, contemporary look, Smith says.
“The relaunch sits at the intersection of three strong trends — global flavor exploration, meal prep simplification and pantry efficiency,” he says.
Seasoning blends, which are available in 8-ounce jars, “make it easy to add extra zing to pizza, pasta, steaks, chicken or other proteins as a dressing, marinade or salsa,” Smith says.
Flavors include garlic and ginger fusion, chili onion crunch, Italian pesto and Italian herb and garlic.
