GLC Cerritos, which supplies Mexican avocados from Jalisco, is highlighting its fair trade and Rainforest Alliance socio-environmental certifications, said Armando Garcia, director of sustainability.

“These certifications validate our commitment to social responsibility and environmental conservation, ensuring that our avocados are grown and packed with care for our people, our communities and nature,” Garcia said.

Addressing social and environmental issues is important in the efforts to maintain business conditions and mitigate compliance risks with trade agreements and both national and international laws, he said.

Social media plays a crucial role for GLC Cerritos in communicating its sustainability strategy and actions to its stakeholders.

“Each social media platform caters to a different audience,” Garcia said. “For example, our Facebook audience mainly consists of community members, while our LinkedIn audience includes customers, government officials, and suppliers.”

In addition, GLC Cerritos communicates its sustainability efforts through publications in specialized fresh produce magazines and news sites. “Our primary communication channel is our sales and commercial team, which has done an excellent job in conveying our sustainability efforts,” Garcia said.
