The Packer’s Tom Karst visited Nov. 2 with Dante Galeazzi, CEO and president of the Texas International Produce Association, about the prospects for citrus and the winter produce deal in Texas and Mexico.

While Texas citrus groves got knocked down by 10% to 40% by Hurricane Hanna, Galeazzi said the demand side looks good.

“I think one of the things that we’ve seen as a result of the COVID pandemic has been people have really woken up to the idea that (they) have got to be healthier,” he said. “It really helped with our 2020 demand. And we’re hoping that demand carries over into the season for the 2020-21 season.”

Galeazzi talks about the outlook for winter vegetables and issues related to border traffic and the results of the November election.

“We are really going to be watching what happens over the next two weeks because I think regardless of administration, we are going to enter an era where trade is going to be very important on any administration docket,” he said. “So we are watching those ideas and regulations; it is going to be critical for the association and our members.”
