Wonderful Pistachios, Los Angeles, is adding BBQ and Sea Salt & Vinegar to its No Shells line.

The new flavors debut next spring, joining Honey Roasted and Chili Roasted No Shells, which were released in July 2019 and have received recognition in the snacking category.

The BBQ No Shells as having a hickory-smoked flavor, dashed with garlic, paprika and salt, and the Sea Salt & Vinegar as tart and tangy, with a balance of sour and savory, according to a news release.

The flavors will be available throughout the U.S. and Canada upon their launch in March, and available in 22-, 11-, 5.5 and 2.25-ounce bags. A 72-count display will roll out to retails in March.

“Adding our new BBQ and Sea Salt & Vinegar flavors to our No Shells offerings presents a big opportunity for retailers, as these flavors will compete strongly in both the snack nuts and salty snacks categories,” Adam Cooper, senior vice president at The Wonderful Co., said in the release. “Both new flavors have high purchase intent and appeal, and we know they’ll perform on par or better than Honey Roasted and Chili Roasted, which are also remaining part of our portfolio.”

The company also is adding a plant protein icon on packaging with the arrival of the new flavors.

Wonderful Pistachios reports that 55% of consumers said they would eat more nuts if they were flavored.

The company is investing $1 million in marketing on the new flavors, from social media and digital platforms, public relations and a free-standing insert, according to the release.

The current No Shells line flavors, Honey Roasted and Chili Roasted have received recognition, including Amazon’s Hot Release and IRI’s Rising Star.
