New York’s Bowery Farming hires scientist Newton Kalengamaliro
Newton Kalengamaliro is the new senior agricultural scientist at Bowery Farming, New York City.
Kalengamaliro will be the senior leader on Bowery’s agricultural science team and will be tasked with optimizing yield and quality, according to a news release.
As a whole-plant physiologist and ecologist for more than two decades, Kalengamaliro has studied plant breeding, physiology, biochemistry and product development, with a focus on produce.
Before joining Bowery, Kalengamaliro was director of breeding and variety development at Driscoll’s, where he was for almost five years. He also worked at Philip Morris USA and British Petroleum.
“We welcome him to the team and look forward to leveraging his decades-long research and industry expertise,” Susan MacIsaac, head of agricultural science, said in the release.
“My sustained interest in business development, specifically, linking crop research findings to new business opportunities in the produce industry, perfectly aligns with Bowery’s current operations,” Kalengamaliro said in the release.
