The Hass Avocado Board is compiling information from research company IRI to update the industry weekly on the retail avocado segment during the COVID-19 crisis.

During the COVID-19 crisis, the Hass Avocado Board is updating the industry on avocado-specific retail sales data, through the weekly sales reports from research firm IRI on how produce department sales are being affected by the crisis.

“We know that the industry is charting a course in very, very, difficult circumstances,” according to the HAB’s website. “But if we can find ways to provide any kind of information that helps us get through this difficult time, we will have done a small part in keeping the industry on steady footing.”

The avocado segment’s weekly increases, compared to year-ago dollar sales, are:

  • Week ending March 1 — 3.1%;
  • Week ending March 8 — 6.1%;
  • Week ending March 15 — 27.4%;
  • Week ending March 22 — 21.1%; and
  • Weed ending March 29 — 17.8%.

For the past four weeks ending March 29, avocado sales rose 18.1%

“HAB has always recognized that data and information are key ingredients to you effectively and efficiently running your business, so it is in our DNA to try and provide unique and actionable data sets that can help our industry understand the current situation,” according to the website. “Seeing what products in what formats are performing across multiple SKU’s can give marketers key insights into how consumers are finding eating solutions when offerings have been so impacted.”
