Wholesum adds organic butternut, spaghetti squash
Wholesum, Amado, Ariz., has added organic and fair trade butternut and spaghetti squash to its line-up.
The company added the hard squash after conducting trials, according to a news release, and join zucchini and yellow squash offerings at Wholesum.
Theojary Crisantes, chief operations officer, said Wholesum looks for ways to innovate and expand offerings sustainably.
“We decided to maximize the use of our fields by planting hard squash following our soft squash season,” Crisantes said in the release. “After a few trials last year at our farm in Culiacan, Mexico, we have created a great spring butternut and spaghetti squash program that we will bring great value to our farm and customers.”
The two hard squashes are considered winter squashes, but can grow outside of the winter months.
“The new butternut and spaghetti squash program is another way we can provide support to our customers as well as our fair trade worker team in Mexico,” Ricardo Crisantes, chief commercial officer of Wholesum, said in the release.
The company’s products are certified by Fair Trade USA.
