Fresh Farms looks to start Sonoran grape harvest

Rio Rico, Ariz.-based Fresh Farms should begin its grape harvest in Sonora, Mexico, around May 20-25, said Al Voll, salesman. The firm’s Jalisco grape deal started earlier than last year, particularly for the Cotton Candy variety. “Typically, early (start) means early finish,” Voll said.  With Jalisco winding down sometime in mid-April, that could mean a gap between Jalisco and the Sonora program. “If we get really hot weather, all of a sudden that pushes the crop on,” he said. “If we can stay in the moderate temperature range, it will give us some consistency to it.”
