Farm Fresh Direct expects strong year, bigger volume of yellow potatoes
Monte Vista, Colo.-based Farm Fresh Direct expects more yellow potato production this year from its San Luis Valley farms, said Matt Glowczewski, sales manager.
An early-season hailstorm mainly missed the grower’s fields, he said.
“As a company, we are pretty fortunate to have avoided that,” he said.
Potato acreage for the company is near steady, with yellow potato acreage growing, he said.
Harvest was active in September, with temperatures running as high as 90 in mid-September. A year ago in mid-September, the region had a 14-inch snow hit the valley.
“What a difference a year makes,” he said.
Harvest is expected to finish up the first week of October. The crop will be packed and shipped through mid- to late August 2022, he said.
Farm Fresh Direct also has a large volume of organic potatoes, he said.
