NewStar Fresh Foods plans to make a significant capital investment in its Estrella Nueva facility in Mexicali, Mexico.
The Salinas, Calif.-based grower-shipper plans to add mechanized optical sorters, precision slicers and form-fill machinery, according to a news release.
The new equipment is designed to produce custom cuts and packs for foodservice, food processing and home meal kit companies, the release said.
“This investment will help us achieve one of our strategic initiatives of delivering innovative, customized and ‘in the box’ ingredient solutions to our customers at higher volumes, year-round, without sacrificing quality or shelf life,” NewStar owner and CEO Anthony Vasquez said in the release.
NewStar’s move aims to reduce food waste, simplify their supply chain and ensure consistent portion control.
