In an effort to entice consumers to put more fresh produce in their morning back-to-school routines, the Los Alamitos, Calif.-based Frieda’s Branded Produce is promoting a variety of breakfast recipes featuring fruit and vegetables.

“We all know breakfast is the most important meal of the day, but we also know consumer’s morning routines can become monotonous,” said Cindy Sherman, Frieda’s senior director of marketing insights and innovation, in a release. “In a recent study [from C+R], we learned that 52% of shoppers believe that produce packaging with recipes and instructions encourages them to try something new.”

Sherman recommends that retailers inspire shoppers this fall with new and colorful breakfast displays featuring fresh produce.

Frieda’s produce items can introduce both sweet and savory flavors to breakfast menus and produce departments. For example, says the company, Frieda’s Stokes Purple sweet potatoes provide a twist of color and flavor to ubiquitous avocado toast, where consumers can swap out the bread for vitamin-packed purple sweet potatoes.

Create an avocado toast destination in your produce department by cross-merchandising Stokes Purple near avocados, watermelon radish, sprouts and other nutritious toppings, suggests Frieda’s.

A look at Instagram reveals how smoothies, puddings and yogurt bowls have taken the breakfast game up a notch. Frieda’s Honey Dragons blended with the sweetness of Rambas Rambutans, deliver a taste of the tropics to the morning power bowl or pudding, said the company. Consumers can skip the weekday mess and prep these recipes in larger batches over the weekend, saving time and energy.

“Breakfast sets the tone for the day, but weekday mornings can be hectic,” said Sherman, also a mother of two. “On the weekends we enjoy making big batch breakfast meals that we grab-n-go throughout the week.”

Retailers looking for more ideas to make their produce department the ultimate breakfast destination can visit the Frieda’s website or call their Frieda’s account manager, said the company.
