Organic importance moving higher for Domex Superfresh Growers
About 20% of the produce from Yakima, Wash.-based Domex Superfresh Growers is organic certified, and that percentage is moving up to 25% in the future, says Catherine Gipe-Stewart, director of marketing.
“Everything that we grow has an organic option: apples, pears, cherries, blueberries and kiwi berries,” Gipe-Stewart said.
This year, one of the biggest changes will be the marketer’s increase in organic Cosmic Crisp, as more trees have been planted and/or are transitioning to organic certified, she said.

In addition to tree fruit, Gipe-Stewart said organic blueberries are a popular item for the marketer in their season from June into September.
The organic blueberries are grown in Oregon’s Umpqua River Valley, which she said has a mild, dry climate that is conducive to producing large and high-quality berries.
“We believe that caring for the land, air and water in our little corner of the world benefits everyone on the planet,” Gipe-Stewart said. “We cultivate our orchards to be a biodiverse system that works in synchronization with nature. Superfresh growing practices allow us to cultivate fruit that our consumers can enjoy for generations to come.”
