PJ Citrus grows with customer focus, president says

Doral, Fla.-based PJ Citrus continues to grow its business with a variety of citrus options and a focus on customer service, says Julyann Borges, president.

“Since 2003 we have been growing with the market and our mission is to serve everyone as our family,” Borges said.

In addition to meeting domestic needs, she said the company is expanding its direct export sales in the next year.

Most of the company’s sales are accounted for by valencia and navel oranges, pink grapefruit, red grapefruit, white grapefruit, clementines and tangerines, either loose or packed. The company packs its fruit with Daumar bagging machines, she said.

Florida’s citrus season has seen smaller fruit size and a reduced crop, which has presented some challenges. But Borges said improved weather should help trees and fruit sizing both in Florida and California.

The South Florida company expects peak demand in the summer months, in part fueled by tourism in the region.

Growing business means covering all the bases, Borges said.

“We are getting all our customer volume discounts and trying to cover all demands,” she said.

PJ Citrus' freight forwarder company, PJ Citrus Express, gives customers direct tracking and the best price to move products, she said.
