Red Sun Farms increases year-round capacity from its Ontario greenhouses
Kingsville, Ontario-based Red Sun Farms is lighting up its greenhouses in Ontario to produce year-round in Canada.
A news release said the company is investing in three projects in Ontario to add lighting that will extend production year-round:
- A new 27-acre facility with a dedicated partially lit growing area, which the release said will allow for a longer growing season for specialty tomatoes;
- A second facility has 42 acres lit, dedicated to year-round organic and conventional production; and
- A third Ontario project introduces LED lighting technology to grow peppers year-round.
“Introducing these new technologies into the greenhouses will allow Red Sun Farms to offer year-round supply from Ontario,” Jim DiMenna, president of Red Sun Farms, said in the release. “Usually over the winter months, we ship our product from Mexico to Canada; however, this new lighting technology will allow us to give some of our Canadian customers limited products over the winter months.”
Red Sun Farms also has operations in the U.S. and Mexico.
