Packer Insight - West Coast Produce Expo Sessions
Amy Sowder, Tom Karst and Ashley Nickle ( The Packer )

PALM DESERT — Editor-in-chief Tom Karst, retail editor Ashley Nickle and Northeast editor Amy Sowder review the education sessions from The Packer's West Coast Produce Expo, from a sustainability panel to an address by Bill Walton.

The panel had representatives from Walmart, Earthbound Farm, Del Monte, Measure to Improve, Tomra and Apeel, and they discussed topics including what areas of sustainability they prioritize, which areas they hear about most from their customers, where they stand on plastic, and what changes they believe will need to happen to meet the sustainability expectations of the next generation of shoppers.

Dave Mitchell, returning to the event for a second time, entertained attendees with analysis of different thinking and communication styles — each profile paired with a movie character, from the best friend to the hired gun.

Capping off the morning was NBA legend Bill Walton, who in an entertaining presentation shared snippets of his life story, including his years playing college ball at UCLA under heralded coach John Wooden, and business applications.
