Avocados From Mexico has been named to Fast Company’s second annual Best Workplaces for Innovators list.

Fast Company editors, Accenture researchers and a panel of judges awarded the top 100 companies after reviewing hundreds of candidates from a variety of industries, according to a news release.

AFM has contributed to the U.S. economy, according to the release, with the value of Mexican avocado imports topping $5 billion in recent years. More than 2.5 billion pounds of avocados are consumed each year in the U.S., and eight out of 10 avocados are from Mexico.

“Since we launched the company seven years ago, we have been committed to doing things differently through innovation that goes beyond the produce aisle,” Alvaro Luque, CEO of Avocados From Mexico, said in the release. “We’ve taken a single (stock-keeping unit) without packaging and created a highly visible brand.”

Some of the innovations from AFM, the release said, include being the first fresh produce brand to have Super Bowl television ads, the first in its category to launch a chatbot to educate consumers on avocados, and its involvement in the world’s first avocado-only restaurant through its culinary expertise and innovation.

“This recognition honors our high-achieving corporate culture and shines a light on how innovation has truly been the driving force of our organization as we continue to build our brand, drive demand and maintain category leadership as the number-one provider of avocados in the U.S.,” Luque said in the release.

AFM was formed in 2013 as the marketing arm for the Mexican Hass Avocado Importers Association and the Association of Growers and Packers of Avocados from Mexico (APEAM).
