Cherry Hill, N.J.-based Amazon Produce Network now is offering papayas from Guatemala, complementing its mango deal, said Greg Golden, partner and sales manager.
The fruit is shipped to the Port of Wilmington, Del., and sent to Amazon’s warehouse in Vineland, N.J., Golden said.
“That has given our customers a chance to load mangoes and papayas together,” he said.
Amazon received its first container — of 35,000 pounds — in October, and fruit should be arriving year-round thereafter, Golden said.
“We’re starting out with a container load a week and, as we enlist new customers for programs, we can easily raise that number to three or four containers a week if the demand is there.”
