Frieda's shifts marketing focus toward school

As the school year approaches, Frieda's Specialty Produce has begun to market some of its offerings as "weird and wild specialty fruits and vegetables" in the hopes that consumers will shop outside of their comfort zones.

The company promoted favorites like baby apples, baby bananas, blood oranges, and Yellow Sweetie grapes while placing an emphasis on more exotic items like rambutan, dragonfruit, baby kiwifruit, and starfruit, in a recent press release.

The company believes that parents should buy a variety of these offerings for their children's lunches and after-school snacks.

"Never underestimate how adventurous children can be when it comes to food," said Karen Caplan, president and CEO of Frieda's, in a news release.

"They prove to us time and time again that they are open to trying something new and fun."
