The Hass Avocado Board, Mission Viejo, Calif., is highlighting several health initiatives in February, American Heart Month.
The avocado group’s Fresh Avocados — Love One Today campaign and the Walk with a Doc non-profit are teaming up to promote physical activity and healthful eating. Another Hass Avocado Board initiative focuses on Hispanic — men who have the highest cholesterol among male adults in the U.S. — by inspiring families to take action through the Love One Today’s Hispanic language companion, Aguacates Frescos — Saborea Uno Hoy.
Walk with a Doc, which has 425 chapters in the U.S., reaching an estimated 200,000 consumers, at community walks and through digital communications, according to a Hass Avocado Board news release. The group’s messages will also include information on “how heart-healthy, fresh avocados provide naturally good fats and are cholesterol-, sugar- and sodium- free,” according to the release.
The partnership will give walk leaders access to research on avocado nutrition, and promote recipes that include avocados.
Recipes and research on the benefits of avocado consumption also are key to the avocado board’s focus on improving Hispanic males’ health through the Aguacates Frescos — Saborea Uno Hoy campaign.
“According to the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, replacing bad fats with good fats can reduce bad cholesterol levels in the blood, so empower yourself to be creative in the kitchen,” Malena Perdomo, registered dietitian and spokesperson for Aguacates Frescos – Saborea Uno Hoy, said in a news release. “Be open to adjusting ingredients as a way to limit bad fats and get the health benefits of good fats for the whole family.”
